The Green Human Ver.(2022)/ The Fly Ver.(2022)
Tethering (2022) addresses the experiences, memories, and voices of 'the namelessly vanishing,' that are constantly exposed to power, censorship, oppression, and violence through an imaginary frame. Reflecting contemporary issues, it follows the remnants of 'social death' and expresses how this death is connected and programmed into society through poetic language. The work combines the Green Human Ver. and the Fly Ver. into a single piece.
The Green Human Ver. is a vertical video work characterised by a recurring structure through an endlessly looping format. In the video, the protagonist continually cleans a bathroom, but paradoxically, there is no change in the cleanliness of the space despite their efforts. The scene seems to metaphorically float meaninglessly through time. The protagonist is unable to escape their immutable, fateful path, repeatedly disappearing and reappearing, metaphorically representing a fundamental issue that exists beyond boundaries and remains unresolved through generations.
The Fly Ver. is the second part of this project. The small fly that appeared and disappeared alongside the protagonist in the Green Human Version becomes the storyteller in this segment. The worldview of merely being 'observers' of each other is a key theme contained within the artist's work Tethering (2022). In the piece, the voice of the fly does not reach the green human and emerges as a one-sided monologue. Within a structure where interaction is impossible, it narrates how those beyond the boundaries fade away.
