RGB highway Trilogy

Part.1  HOWLING(2023)/ Part.2  DEATH MATCH(2023)/ Part.3 BORN TO BE RICE: UNITED WE ARE RICE BALLS DIVIDED WE ARE FRIED RICE ANTWAY IT’S DELICIOUS(2024)

Part.1 HOWLING (2023) is the first part of the RGB Highway trilogy(2023-2024), signalling the birth of a new dimension known as "the third space." At the core of this part is the emergence of a 'mother' figure for all the marginalised and wanderers.

The presence of 'mother' in the work signifies something more comprehensive than just a being tied to bloodlines or lineage.

In Part.1, centered around cyborg and hybrid identities, 'mother' exists only as a voice, without a specific form or appearance.

This unfamiliar voice emerges, subverting traditional conventions and perceptions, constantly emerges as a mutable entity intertwined with marginalised identities. In 'the third space', this disembodied voice floats, creating audio-visual images that transcend the boundaries of imagination and connect with reality. The long-haired creatures that appear at the end represent mysterious and ever-present wanderers who share a common body and spirit.

Part.2 DEATH MATCH (2023), focuses on the migration process of the long-haired creatures to 'the third space' as the second part of the RGB Highway trilogy(2023-2024).

During their journey to the third space, the creatures use ears as passageways to visit and connect with one another, caring for each other. They transcend the boundaries of humans and non-humans, life and death, connecting generations and relying on each other. As they do this, they embody the connections necessary for the sustainability of coexistence, evolving their forms and moving from body to body like a virus.

Part.3 BORN TO BE RICE – UNITED WE ARE RICE BALLS, DIVIDED WE ARE FRIED RICE, ANYWAY IT’S DELICIOUS (2024)_As the final part of the RGB Highway trilogy(2023-2024), this work explores the symbolic and relational complexities of food-sharing through rice, a universal staple with profound cultural significance. Sharing meals is more than a practical act; it is a gesture that embodies love, care, and connection across cultures.

In this work, rice is anthropomorphized into various characters that interact with humans. Transformed into playful dog-like forms, the rice characters lure, attack, or otherwise engage people. Those who are “attacked” are transformed into rice themselves, which then replicates into new forms. These transformed beings engage in further actions, such as throwing rice into graves or weaponizing it. This continuous cycle of clustering and dispersing, replication and disintegration, ultimately converges into a reformation of all its elements back into one.

As the concluding chapter of the RGB Highway trilogy(2023-2024), this piece examines the cycles of forming, dissolving, and regenerating relationships through rice as a metaphor. It reflects on how the concept of family and belonging evolves in contemporary society and highlights the paradoxical nature of hospitality—its simultaneous acts of inclusion and exclusion. Through humor and wit, the work invites viewers to intuitively experience the complexities of relational cycles.

The video incorporates animation, comic-style stills, and game-like visuals to build a fantastical narrative, which ultimately transitions into live-action footage. This shift blurs the boundaries between imagination and reality, encouraging the audience to contemplate new possibilities for family, relationships, and communal coexistence.
